Foreclosure Prevention & Predatory Lending Resources
In July 2007, UEDA helped convene the Predatory
Lending & Foreclosure Prevention Task Force, with the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This group of
concerned professionals from the housing industry began to
discus responses and solutions to the many issues affecting
individual homeowners and neighborhoods as the result of
sub-prime loans, inflated appraisals, foreclosure rescue
schemes, and other predatory behavior that has contributed to
extraordinarily high foreclosure rates in our communities. In
September 2008, UEDA participated in the Milwaukee Foreclosure
Partnership Initiative, by chairing the Prevention work group
and developing a set of recommendations to help mitigate the
future impact of foreclosures.
These approaches include consumer & homeowner outreach and
education, legislative advocacy, and working with lenders and
financial institutions to form real solutions for individuals
and families affected by this crisis. Listed below are a few
resources that you and/or your organization can use to assist
those in trouble. These RESOURCE FLYERS contain information on
the reputable sources of help for homeowners and consumers, and
were compiled by UEDA and other partners.
