  • Carnival Milwaukee 2010 - Join us for UEDA’s 3rd Annual Fundraiser. This event will feature a celebration of all the culture and diversity that is Milwaukee, including a tasting from local ethnic restaurants, entertainment and music from area cultural groups – in short, a “party with a purpose”! Individual tickets are $35.00 each; click here for event information and to purchase tickets.
     

  • UEDA Community Development Brown Bag Series underway…Each quarter UEDA hosts a CD Brown Bag where members can welcome new staff and partners to the Community and Economic Development field and provide them with information about the exciting work that is being performed by various organizations. It also provides an opportunity for veterans to reconnect and learn the W.I.G.O. (What Is Going On). All sessions take place at Noon and are held at the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee. In 2010, join us on January 29, April 30, July 30 and October 29. Look for invites in the UEDA member bulletin or Email Kristi or, call 414.562.9904 to receive more information.

In 2007, UEDA committed itself to not only continuing the Annual Community Development Summit, but to also holding Quarterly Gatherings that feature various topics and issues of interest to our members and partners.   • Coalition for Advancing Transit (C.A.T.) Meeting, November 18 at 9:00AM. More than ever, business growth and employment opportunity have a common challenge – access to transit. Interested in learning more about how you can help build a vibrant, modern regional transit network in SE WI? At this meeting, we will discuss the opportunities present to make improved transit a reality for our region and how you can get engaged in the issue.   • UEDA Annual Membership Meeting, November 4, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Thanks to our Board of Directors, members and partners who joined us at Rustico in Milwaukee to celebrate another successful year at UEDA.

     
  • 8th Annual Community Development Summit - “Regional Transit: Get On Board” held on Friday, September 18. Is regional transit for SE WI ready to roll, or stopped in its tracks? More than ever, business growth and employment opportunity have a common challenge – access to transit. At this year’s Summit, we reviewed the progress made in the last year, and discussed the opportunities present to make improved transit a reality for our region.   • UEDA Spring Quarterly Gathering - May 7, 2009: “Nonprofit Marketing 101”- Members, partners and other guests of UEDA gathered to hear presenter Gary Mueller of Serve Marketing discuss the tactical issues related to marketing and raising awareness about organizations and their work.   • UEDA’s 2nd Annual Fundraiser, Carnival Milwaukee: February 28, 2009. This year’s fundraiser was a celebration of the culture and diversity that is Milwaukee, with a tasting that featured an array of ethnic restaurants, and performances by musical and cultural groups.   • Coalition for Advancing Transit meeting – October 14th, 2008: This group formed at the Quarterly Gathering held September 17th; at this meeting the Coalition came to consensus on its purpose and action steps to encourage elected officials to find regional solutions to transit in Southeast Wisconsin.   • UEDA Quarterly Gathering – September 17th, 2008: Participants agreed to form a regional advocacy coalition around finding solutions to the challenges to preserve, improve and expand transit in Southeast Wisconsin.

  • UEDA Annual Meeting – Thursday, September 25th: Members and partners are invited to join us at Rustico, located at 223 N. Water Street in Milwaukee’s Third Ward from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. as we celebrate another successful year of UEDA programming, service to our members and an introduction to new Board members.   • UEDA Fall Quarterly Gathering – October 25, 2007. This event featured The Life Ventures Partnership, an approach designed to align employers, schools, government agencies and community-based organizations in reaching Milwaukee youth, particularly those at-risk, to educate and link them to future career opportunities.     The 2007 Summit provided an opportunity to hear and discuss the City of Milwaukee’s Economic Opportunities, Vision and Strategy Framework, which was developed in conjunction with the Milwaukee 7. This process is informing the creation of the City’s Comprehensive Economic Development Plan. To stay in touch with the latest updates on this process, you can do the following:
    • Become a UEDA Member and/or attend future UEDA Quarterly Gatherings for updates on this process.
    • Visit the City of Milwaukee Department of City Development website page devoted to this effort to find the most current information: www.mkedcd.org/planning/EDP
