What is BACOM ?
The Business Assistance Caucus of Milwaukee
(BACOM) is an affinity group of public and nonprofit agencies and
private consultants, working together to develop business assistance
to central city entrepreneurs and business owners.
From 2003-2006 UEDA convened BACOM members and assisted them in:
1) Building capacity to provide business development services, and
2) Coordinating support for Initiative for a Competitive Milwaukee (ICM).
These capacity building activities included, but were not limited
to:
1) Sharing resources through presentations, printed materials, and
website;
2) Establishing systems for referrals to technical
"experts";
3) Bringing training opportunities and expert speakers to providers,
and;
4) Meeting nonprofit governance and management standards
Who is BACOM?
BACOM was a collaborative group of organizations
that worked together to strengthen operational effectiveness to
Small and Entrepreneurial Businesses. Today, UEDA continues to
provide these capacity building services and technical assistance
through its membership activities.
BACOM TOOL KIT
Under the leadership of UEDA and the BACOM Steering Committee,
the Business
Assistance Resource Guide was published in August of 2005. This
issue lists twenty-nine business assistance providers and relevant
resources.
The following tools were developed subsequent to a comprehensive
study of failed and successful small business ventures in Milwaukee.
They have been developed with the intent to aid technical assistance
providers and business owners with the process of creating a
business plan and growing a business.
The tools will help you learn how to ask the right questions of
clients, how to keep track of client contacts, and how to avoid
repetition. These forms will make it easier for the lender to
understand the business plan and make their work go faster.
